Hi, I'm Paul. On Tuesday 18 August at 12.00 noon BST, I will take my place for an hour on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, as part of Antony Gormley’s One & Other installation.
Only 2,400 of us will have this opportunity, so I intend to put mine to good use. I want to spend my time carrying out experiments that benefit from my unique position atop this 8m-high concrete structure.
But what should those experiments be? That, dear web site visitor, is where you came in!
Through this site, for the past two weeks, people have been submitting suggestions for short experiments they would like to see carried out on the plinth, and voting for their favourites. Thank you! I'm now trawling through the experiments and results and preparing to carry out lots of the most popular ones on Tuesday!
(I do, of course, have the ultimate say over which experiments get done: if a million people say they like the idea of me chopping my arm off and measuring how far the blood spurts, I think I will still choose not to go for that one!)
You can still use the 'Comments and predictions' form under each experiment to submit predictions of the outcome of any of the experiments. All the predictions that turn out to be correct when I have the results will be eligible for a prize draw, in which you can win some memorabilia from my time on the plinth!
There are deadlines for these activities, to allow me time to get things organised, as follows:
- Submitting new experiment ideas: 10.00 BST, Saturday 15 August.
- ‘Liking’ suggested experiments: 15.00 BST, Saturday 15 August.
- Predicting outcomes: 11.45 BST, Tuesday 18 August.
So without further delay, please choose from the menu on the left to get started!
